Levoca

Levoca is one of the most beautiful towns in Slovakia and has plenty in the way of history and culture to keep the tourists happy.

The town was founded on the site of an earlier Slavic settlement in the first half of the 13th century, but the history goes back to the 11th century. Today we can admire the wonderful facades of Renaissance borough houses on the square, Gothic yards and passages, an alley of infamy from the 16th century, eerie fortifications and bastions and the parish Church of St Jacob, which is dominated by an altar created by Master Pavol of Levoca.

There are a few more places worth visiting:

  • The Museum of Spis
  • The Master Pavol Museum
  • The Marianske Pilgrimage
  • Town Wall, The Cage of Shame
  • The Trade House, The Protestant Church
  • The Town Theatre
  • The Large Provincial House.
